Getting Around At The 2018 Commonwealth Games
From 4-15 April 2018 over thousands of athletes from 70 nations and territories will be battling it out in elite sporting events for 11-days on the Gold Coast.
Tickets prices have recently been revealed for the Games and they’re extremely affordable and accessible – at as little as $20 for adults and $10 for children.
Something not so straight-forward will be getting around to different events, with most venues scattered geographically in several Gold Coast suburbs and beyond.
With events such as Beach Volleyball being held in Coolangatta in the south, and Gymnastics and Netball at Coomera in the north – it’s hard to choose where to stay on the Gold Coast when there’s not really a location that’s in the heart of it all.
For those who don’t know the Gold Coast well, it’s an hour and a half between those two locations via public transport or a couple of hours from the Gold Coast if you’re trying to watch the cycling at the Velodrome in Brisbane.
Where To Stay – Commonwealth Games Gold Coast
Staying in places like Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise are usually quite central for the Gold Coast, so that you can enjoy the beach and an array of activities during your stay… but the sports venues are not as close as you would hope.
With many people flying to the Gold Coast for the event, it will be extremely hard to travel between the events and see most of the action unless you hire a rental car.
Airport Pick Up
At Andy’s, we can pick you straight up from the airport after your flight has landed and take you directly to your hire car so you can drive to all the places you need in April 2018.
While some of the venues will have limited parking, Park ‘n’ Ride programs will be in place so that you can come and go as you wish in your car, and simply hop on a quick shuttle to take you back to your car.
