Five scenic drives on the Gold Coast
Planning a trip to the Gold Coast? If you’re flying in to the airport, your best option is to hire a car so you can travel at your own pace and see the sights.
Here are five scenic drives on the Gold Coast worth hiring a car for:
1. Southern beaches to Point Danger
Once you’re out of the airport carpark, immediately turn right at the roundabout and then right at the lights to head south.
Follow signs for Marine Parade and follow the beautiful coastline all the way around past Kirra Point, Coolangatta, Greenmount Beach, Rainbow Bay then up the hill towards Point Danger.
The beaches are pristine and make for a stunning coastal drive.
You’ll end up at the top of the hill – right where the Queensland and New South Wales border line is, and with a breathtaking view of the deep blue ocean.
2. Currumbin Beach to Currumbin Valley
There’s a perception that all of the Gold Coast’s hinterland and national parks are hours away from the actual coast. But that’s certainly not the case for Currumbin Valley.
A quick 15 minutes from the beach and you’re already surrounded by lush greenery and stumbling across rock pools, lookouts and enchanting cascades.
There’s no need to worry about getting lost as you literally stay on the same road from the beach to the valley without any turns, so just enjoy the drive and take in the beautiful sights.
3. Springbrook National Park
You can’t go off the beaten track to Springbrook on public transport, and the cab fare would be astronomical… but once you’ve hired a car – there’s nothing stopping you.
Springbrook is home to some incredible bushwalks, lookouts, and waterfalls – including the captivating Natural Bridge falls and glow worm caves.
Still less than an hour from the Gold Coast airport, this hidden treasure makes for a wonderful day out for the whole family.
4. Lamington National Park
Lamington National Park is yet another picturesque spot that you can only really see the best of when you’re travelling by car.
If you’re on the lookout for waterfalls, this is definitely the best part of the Gold Coast for them. Have your walking shoes and water bottles ready because you’ll need to do some walking too.
There are hikes for all fitness levels so take a look at the signage and maps up near O’Reilly’s and go from there.
Be prepared for a longer drive for this one, but we assure you… it’s worth every minute.
5. Mount Tamborine
Mount Tamborine is not only gorgeous for its incredible views over the rolling hills and the Surfers Paradise skyline over the horizon – but also its lovely little boutique shops and small town charm.
With everything from breweries, distilleries and cheese factories, to fudge stalls and cuckoo clocks – it’s the sweetest little town you’ll find on the Gold Coast.
These are just a handful of the incredible Gold Coast locations best discovered by car.
